Pass the whiskey barrels with Swiss chard, flat parsley and millet to the brick path between the four foot tall arborvitae that creates your private oasis.  Enter on the deck with patio furniture shaded by a choke cherry tree.

Settle into a lounge chair on the deck.  Peek through the pogoda dogwood branches and burning bushes for a view  of the disc golf course on the hillside to the south .  Enjoy a snack and a cool beverage as you watch the humming birds, gold finches, red tail hawks, chicadees and the goofy cardinal attacking his image in the window of the Lodge.

Depending on the time of year you may smell lilacs,  catch early spring primroses, crocus, scilla muscari Armeniacum.   In July, coreopsis and echinacea with a background of yews and ferns beg for a photo.  Mums, pumpkins and squash color the scene in fall.

Inside The Granary a corner gas fireplace beckons you to curl up and relax in the hickory bent rocking chairs.  Oak mission style bunkbeds, built by Don, work very well for families with young children or a group of several women.  After the soothing whirlpool children love to snuggle up for storytime.  There’s a table and chairs for snacks or board games.

Thank you for giving us our first few days of wedlock in such a beautiful, romantic, peaceful, serene setting. George and I couldn’t have asked for a more perfect place!

We had a great time. We needed this time to get away from our hectic lives. We loved all the trails, especially the BIG Buck run by sled. It’s sooo xtreme. Hope to see you again soon.

Historically speaking:

With the popularity of the Little House,  families flocked to Justin Trails causing a need for more lodging separate from the house.  Aha!  The Granary is the perfect size of 16’ x 24’ for a family.   The outside shell was in very good condition.  The exterior integrity was maintained with the original door and location of windows facing the farmyard.  The red farm building color gave way to a dark green.  The interior was totally cleaned, disinfected and new construction began.  Bead board stained green, a skylight, a second door and windows to the west were cut.  A corner fireplace keeps this cabin cozy.  An experiment to add a whirlpool was a huge success with guests.

Lona and Gustave Justin (Don’s grandparents) lived in the Granary in the winter of 1920 while their new home was being built.  When it was time for them to move into their new home, four bins were built in the granary for storing grains of barley, rye, oats and wheat.

Justin Trails Resort is located two miles south of Leon, Wisconson, an unincorporated village without any stop lights.   The famous Elroy-Sparta Bike trailhead is only six miles away.  Leon is home of the Gatorfest to be held August 25-26, 2007.
